Benfica has won the European Cup (now known as the UEFA Champions League) twice in its history.

The first time Benfica won the European Cup was in the 19601961 season. It's worth mentioning that Benfica has also reached the European Cup final on two other occasions but failed to win. In the 19621963 season, Benfica lost to Milan in the final, and in the 19871988 season, they were defeated by PSV Eindhoven in a penalty shootout.

While Benfica's success in the European Cup has been significant, the club has not been able to replicate that success in recent years. However, they have been a dominant force in the Portuguese league, winning numerous domestic titles and consistently competing in European competitions.
